*New* Gardening Program Celebrates the Beauty of Local Nature

March 8, 2012

Volunteers will enjoy the beauty of Mary Vagle's scenic backdrop, including its shimmering lake.

On Saturday, April 7th, the Mary Vagle Nature Center in Fontana is thrilled to debut a brand new monthly gardening program – “Green Thumbs, Gold Hearts!” Led by Volunteer Leader Stacy Corona, each month a group of 6-10 volunteers will pitch in to spruce up the grounds of the Nature Center, which hosts countless free educational events and field trips every year.  Beginning on April 7th, the first Saturday of each month will see volunteers teaming up to prune dangling shrubs/bushes, weed native plant gardens, mulch or rake hiking trails, and perform other light gardening duties.

All activities will be non-strenuous, making this the perfect volunteer event for the whole family!

All ages of volunteers are welcome to participate in giving back to an agency that has supported the Fontana community for decades. “For all ages and interests, the Mary Vagle Nature center is a wonderful community place!” says the energetic Corona. “The gardening projects offer fun and relaxing ways to ensure the natural setting is enjoyed for many years to come!”

One of the best parts of the program, Corona points out, is that absolutely anyone can take part in it—not just experienced gardeners. “Green thumbs or not, the gardening project is such a fun and easy way to preserve nature and enjoy such a wonderful space!” she says.

All interested parties are encouraged to sign up through the HandsOn Inland Empire website. Exact dates and times for the “Green Thumbs, Gold Hearts” event can be found at
