Arrowhead United Way Rolls Out Christmas Train Adventure

December 19, 2011

This past Saturday, over 200 kids gathered at the Metro Link Station in San Bernardino for Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway’s annual Christmas Train Adventure! Organized by Arrowhead United Way, one of our fantastic community partners, the event brought together children from ten local non-profit organizations that serve underprivileged families.

Highlighted by a free, holiday-themed ride in a Christmas-decorated train, the event also featured music, singing, gifts, balloon animals, magicians, and a wealth of other fun activities. Yet the event’s most popular feature was a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, who brought gift bags and stuffed animals for every child in attendance!

One of the chaperones at the event was Rachel Hart, whose son Jordan was visibly excited to ride the train and tell Santa what he wanted for Christmas (a policeman’s uniform). Reflecting upon the event as a whole, Hart was extremely grateful for all the happiness the Christmas Train Adventure brought her son. “Everything today was a hit with him. He loved riding the train, sitting with his friends, talking to Santa—all of it,” said Hart.

This was a popular sentiment, and one that was echoed in the smiles of kids from all ten non-profit organizations. In the end, bringing such holiday happiness to both kids and their families what the event was all about. “When you look around, you can see that everyone here is having a good time,” said event coordinator Megan Karius. “To me, that is always the most important part.”
